Pierre Gasly has described how he felt like having to have an "underwear change every lap" after trying his Alpine F1 car in the wet for the first time.
The Miami Grand Prix weather forecast is currently set to bring heavy thunderstorms for Sunday's race, with the current cars not being run in a competitive session in the wet thus far.
During pre-season testing, some teams did run briefly in wet conditions during the Barcelona shakedown and at filming days, with Gasly's Alpine A526 breaking cover for the first time in the middle of January at Silverstone.
Describing the experience of driving the new 2026 generation of cars in the wet, and how he felt he could handle it over the weekend, Gasly recalled the "most extreme" conditions he had ever faced - and a laundry problem.
"The good thing is that I drove in mid-January at Silverstone with 30 degrees of tyre temperature, and was wheel-spinning in sixth gear after Maggots and Becketts," Gasly told media, including RacingNews365.
"It was an underwear change every lap, and it was the most extreme [conditions I've driven] in my life, so after that, I feel pretty prepared for any condition which I am going to face.
"It's not to say that I don't expect it to be very challenging if it is wet, I am prepared for it, and I know what to face, and I know how to maximise and make the best out of everything that would happen.
"I know I am pretty good in these conditions, so personally, I wouldn't mind it, but it will be a pretty special race and especially if it is wet, it is quite tricky in terms of grip conditions.
"There are a couple of traps you need to stay away from, but I think there will be some good opportunities."
