Max Verstappen responds to Loek Hartog's life-saving act

The remarkable actions of Loek Hartog over the weekend have not gone unnoticed by Max Verstappen, after Hartog saved the life of fellow racing driver Ollie Millroy.

The four-time F1 drivers' champion took a moment after the Italian Grand Prix at Monza to praise his fellow Dutchman for an act of bravery that captured the attention of the entire motorsport world.

Hartog was competing in the fourth round of the China GT Championship at the Shanghai International Circuit, driving his Porsche 911 GT3 R EVO, when a chain-reaction collision engulfed rival Millroy's Ferrari in flames.

The British driver was trapped in the cockpit as marshals stood hesitantly on the sideline, seemingly unsure how to respond to the burning wreck.

Hartog did not hesitate. He brought his own car to a halt, sprinted towards the fire, grabbed a fire extinguisher from a marshal and physically hauled Millroy to safety. The entire rescue took just 49 seconds.

Following the Italian Grand Prix, in which Verstappen finished third behind Mercedes pair Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, he was asked by Viaplay for his reaction to his compatriot's intervention. The Red Bull driver's admiration was plain to see.

"Yes, that is incredible. He did that really well. A lot of respect for that. Without him, he wouldn't have survived. Yes, very special," said Verstappen.

Millroy sustained five broken ribs, a broken collarbone, a broken hand and a bruised lung, but survived the incident.

From his hospital bed, he said that he owes his life to Hartog. The rescue has been praised globally by media outlets, fellow drivers and fans alike.
