Esteban Ocon feels that the setup on his Alpine machine has been key to his strong run of form this season following a tough spell on his return to F1 in 2020. Ocon was expected to have problems against Fernando Alonso this year but the Frenchman has outqualified Alonso at the last four races and is 10th in the Drivers' Championship despite Alpine only being seventh in the Constructors' Standings. "I feel a lot more confident," Ocon told RacingNews365.com and other select members of the press. "I feel like we are setting the car a lot better and I've gained a huge amount of performance with that. "We started to get that into the last events last year and then I outqualified Daniel [Ricciardo] in Abu Dhabi so it started to come on the right way, towards the end of the year with the podium [in Sakhir]." Ocon thinks that he was able to build on his end of 2020 form going into this year. After Alonso impressed at the season-opener in Bahrain, it's been Ocon who has led Alpine at the other four races of the 2021 season so far. "We started to be to be quite nice towards the end of last year, and we continued that for the winter and we've continued it overall in the beginning of of the year," said Ocon. "I think we're extracting close to the maximum of the car each weekend. I'm very pleased of what we are building at the moment because this is what I wanted for a long time.
