Sergio Perez handed Azerbaijan grid penalty after stewards investigation

Sergio Perez has been handed a three-place grid penalty by Azerbaijan Grand Prix stewards following an incident involving Oscar Piastri in qualifying. 

During Q1 in Baku, Piastri was forced lift off during a flying lap through Turns 18,19, and 20 at the end of the lap to avoid the slow Cadillac of Perez.

Piastri was travelling around 300kph with Perez at 248kph as he continued a preparation lap, and, the stewards had found, was told twice of the McLaren approaching. 

The race director's instructions inform drivers to stay on the right-hand side of the track during preparation laps, but Perez failed to do this as he was weaving to warm his tyres - thus causing Piastri to be impeded.

Piastri did tell the stewards that, although he lifted, he did not feel any significant time loss. 

The stewards determined that the incident was not dangerous, but given Perez had received two warnings of Piastri's arrival, did not follow the instructions, and that Piastri was forced to lift, he was impeded. 

As such, Perez received a three-place grid drop, which dropped him from P19 on the road to P20 on the grid as both Aston Martin drivers have received back-of-the-grid engine penalties, with Valtteri Bottas swapping places with his team-mate.
