Max Verstappen voiced his displeasure with Lando Norris for scuppering his chance of grabbing pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver abandoned his final lap in Q3 just before the last corner of the Marina Bay Street Circuit, later claiming the Briton had got in his way.

Ultimately qualifying second behind George Russell, the four-time F1 drivers' champion was unable to find the two tenths of a second he needed to take the honours under the lights of the Southeast Asian city-state, somewhere he has never started from pole.

Verstappen could not hide his frustration after the session, saying: "Yeah, that's what happens when there's a car in front of you, just cruising two seconds in front.

"So that's noted, will be remembered as well."

When asked by David Coulthard who it was that allegedly ruined his chances, the 28-year-old replied: "Not Oscar [Piastri]", with the Australian alongside him having qualified third.

"So, yeah, that was a bit of a shame," he added. "Otherwise, I think it could have been closed for pole. It's always very exciting here in qualifying.

"Of course, a little bit disappointed to not be first, but for us, this weekend so far has been really good. The car has been very competitive, so for us to be second again is very good."

Replays of the incident show the Dutchman going deep into Turn 16 with Norris at that stage exiting Turn 17, all part of the final chicane complex.

Verstappen subsequently backed out of the lap as the McLaren driver pitted, sticking up a sarcastic thumb to express his annoyance with the nine-time grand prix winner.
