Max Verstappen 'onboard footage' shows 'brutal' nature of Nordschleife defeat

Max Verstappen is eager not to be drawn into making comparisons between F1 and GT racing, especially when it comes to satisfaction levels.

Max Verstappen has explained how onboard footage from the Nürburgring 24 Hours highlighted just how "brutal and exciting" the Nürburgring Nordschleife is, despite missing out on victory.

Verstappen made his 24-hour debut at the iconic German circuit last weekend, experiencing driving GT3 cars at night for the first time.

The 28-year-old produced an exceptional display, although he did experience multiple scares along the way which almost ended the #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3 entry's race.

A maiden victory looked to be on the cards until the race lead was lost with four hours remaining following a mechanical issue, which left the car in the garage for several hours undergoing repairs.

Despite the disappointment, the Red Bull star loved his latest Nordschleife appearance, with the event offering him immense satisfaction.

It is something he has struggled to find in Formula 1 this season due to the new power unit regulations, although he is eager to avoid comparing the two disciplines.

Asked how he judges the satisfaction levels of the fun of GT racing compared to the current situation in F1, Verstappen explained: "I mean, it's a different discipline, and I enjoy it a lot.

"It's something that I always wanted to do. Outside of Formula 1, there are a lot of other kinds of racing you can do, and that was definitely on my list.

"I think if you look at the onboard footage, you can understand why it's so brutal and exciting.

"And yeah, for me, it was something that we prepared for over a long time, and the fact we managed to put it all together for that weekend was really cool. It's also something I would like to continue doing."
