Liam Lawson is set to incur a grid penalty for the Italian Grand Prix, with Red Bull introducing new power unit components to Isack Hadjar's allocation, RacingNews365 understands.
Despite the Frenchman sitting out at Monza as he continues to recover from the wrist injury he sustained during the F1 summer break, the new parts are assigned to his RB22, not the driver in the cockpit, specifically.
Therefore, Lawson will not face a double-jeopardy-like situation when he returns to his usual Racing Bulls car, which may not be until after the Spanish Grand Prix next week.
On Friday at the Temple of Speed, Red Bull technical director Pierre Waché suggested the New Zealander would take the grid drop, which is why he ran a slightly different run plan during FP2.
It has not yet been confirmed which components have been changed for Lawson.
Monza is a common venue for teams to take a grid drop due to the vast overtaking opportunities available during the race.
Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli and Williams' Alex Albon have already been fitted with new components and will line up at the back on Sunday.
