Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko has proposed a Formula 1 rule change that would limit discussions between teams and drivers during races. The 79-year-old says he is against drivers receiving technical support from their engineers whilst behind the wheel. He has also proposed that communications from engineers to drivers be banned entirely, converting the radio into a one-way channel where only the driver can speak. His proposal comes despite Max Verstappen and engineer Gianpiero Lambiase often being hailed by the team as a dream driver and engineer partnership. There have been similar rules applied in the past, during the early years of the Hybrid era, rules that prove unpopular and did not last.
Marko: It makes it easier for Hamilton
Marko is tired of hearing Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton receive driving advice, he says, suggesting that the mid-race discussions with his engineer are making life "easier" for the sport's most successful ever driver. "It's partly like being in driving school," said Marko, as quoted by ServusTV. " You could limit it so that it only goes in one direction, that you only let the driver do it, but don't let him get technical support. "It's like: 'You lose five meters in turn ten when braking and in turn three the other driver takes it a little more slowly.' "So a driver gets all this information and that makes it easier for him," he added.
