However, the seven-time World Champion could be facing a grid drop for a red flag infringement after passing cars while it was flying. A three-place grid drop is the usual penalty.
Elsewhere, Daniel Ricciardo heads into what could be his final qualifying with a three-place grid drop, while Sebastian Vettel will try to find a way to claim a 54th pole in what is definitely his last Saturday as an F1 driver.
