Lando Norris has told McLaren there is "nothing we can do" about Max Verstappen as the F1 title race intensifies in the home straight.
With four rounds and 116 points remaining in the season, Norris now leads the standings by a single point from team-mate Oscar Piastri after overhauling the Australian with victory in Mexico City last time out.
However, reigning champion Verstappen has halved the deficit to Norris, which stood at 70 points just five races ago after the Dutch GP, to just 36, and is the only one of the title-contending trio to have experience of a tight title race.
Norris did briefly challenge Verstappen in 2024, but was unable to garner enough momentum to hold a sustained challenge, as the Briton warned McLaren of the impending threat posed by the Dutchman.
"It's not like it's been an easy return from 30-something points to what it is now," Norris told media, including RacingNews365, prior to the Mexico City weekend, when he still trailed Piastri by 14 points.
"Especially against an incredible driver in the same driver, so I feel like I've been doing a good job, but of course, there is another guy who has been winning races and catching even more, but there is nothing we can do about him.
"He's been quick all season, had many pole positions, and it is not that they were ever bad, so it is not a surprise that when it clicks a bit more and they get the car in a better place, then Max does what he does and they're catching up.
"But at the same time, it doesn't change anything that I do, I try and win a race every weekend, that is my approach, has been for a while, and that's the approach I'll continue with."
