Kimi Antonelli will visit the FIA stewards at the Chinese Grand Prix after appearing to impede Lando Norris during sprint qualifying.
During SQ2 at the Shanghai International Circuit, the Mercedes driver was cruising through the first corner as the reigning F1 drivers' champion reached the apex soon after opening what appeared to be a push lap.
Norris took evasive action, but it cost him his lap, having to go around again. He was immediately on the radio to point out the incident, with race control soon noting the near-miss.
In short order, it was upgraded to a post-session investigation.
Both made it through to SQ3 for the eight-minute shootout for sprint pole tomorrow. Antonelli was second fastest, behind team-mate George Russell in SQ2. Norris, meanwhile, was sixth.
The standard penalty, if found guilty, would be a three-place grid drop for the sprint. However, if the stewards deem it to be a particularly dangerous occurrence, the young Italian could be pushed back five positions on the grid.
It will likely be the former, as it was not an intentional case of blocking.
