Lewis Hamilton faces a double punishment after blatantly ignoring instructions from Ferrari, following a costly accident during final practice ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion was on a hot lap but went into the barrier at the final corner. Hamilton entered too hot and went straight into the barrier, breaking his front wing.
It triggered an immediate red flag. Hamilton reversed out of the barrier and escaped suspension damage, attempting to bring his damaged SF-26 back to the garage.
The front wing scrapped along the track surface, causing a puncture as it became stuck underneath the front wheels.
Ferrari instructed Hamilton to stop the car but the Briton refused on multiple occasions, before eventually coming to a halt.
Not only does the 41-year-old now miss the rest of third practice and crucial qualifying simulations, he will likely face a punishment for driving a damaged car.
