Isack Hadjar has delivered an honest assessment of his career progression as he prepares for his first season as a Red Bull driver.
The Frenchman joined the F1 grid last year as a Racing Bulls driver and enjoyed a positive rookie campaign.
His season peaked at the Dutch Grand Prix where a late mechanical issue for Lando Norris allowed him to inherit third place and secure his maiden F1 podium.
His string of strong results during the campaign resulted in a promotion to Red Bull for 2026 alongside Verstappen.
Having learned the news ahead of the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Hadjar told the Talking Bulls how he reacted.
“I just called my mom,” he said. “She said that she actually got the phone call before I had it. She knew before I did how.
“She’s my manager, and she knows more than I do.”
Hadjar has conceded that being in the right place at the right time counts for more than strong on-track results when it comes to career progression.
With his opportunity to impress behind the wheel of a front-running F1 car fast approaching, Hadjar stated: “There are moments where I do realise what's happening, and I'm up for the challenge.
“And sometimes I’m like ‘What the hell am I doing here?’
“It’s so far away from my go-kart days. I'm like, ‘Why me?’ You know, why? How did I get chosen?’ I'm incredibly lucky.
“You need everything to align perfectly. Doing good is not enough.”
