Nico Hulkenberg suffered a freak injury in the Stake garage on the first day of F1 pre-season testing, according to reports.
The German racer was due to attend the official F1 press conference, but after completing the morning session for the team was hit in the eye by a splinter as the team completed grinding work, pulled out of the session, Sky Germany have reported.
RacingNews365 understands Hulkenberg made a visit to the medical centre for treatment, but that after a few hours, he was given a clean bill of health with no lasting impact.
Hulkenberg, who has returned to the Hinwil-based team after a season in 2013 for the 2025 campaign was back on driving duties on Thursday morning, placing sixth at the two-hour mark of a rain-hit session.
Team-mate Gabriel Bortoleto, the reigning F2 champion, will once again take over the car in the afternoon.
