Lewis Hamilton goes rather well at Austin's Circuit of the Americas track. If he wins on his final visit with Mercedes, he'll take another record from Michael Schumacher.

Lewis Hamilton already holds the F1 record for most wins in the United States, having taken six victories during his career.

The first of those came at Indianapolis in F1's final visit to the Brickyard in 2007, before a hiatus of five years was ended in 2012 when the first permanent-built grand prix track in the US opened its doors.

During this weekend's US Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas, Hamilton has the chance to break yet another record he holds with Michael Schumacher.

Both Hamilton and Schumacher have enjoyed five victories at a single track in the United States, with Hamilton's coming at COTA and Schumacher's at Indianapolis during his Ferrari heyday.

Amusingly, despite his opposition to the Indy 500, Schumacher actually jointly holds the record for most wins at IMS, with NASCAR icon Jeff Gordon. Four drivers have four Indy 500 wins.

Most wins at a single track in the United States

Ranking Driver Track Wins Years won
1. Michael Schumacher Indianapolis 5 2000, 2003-2006
1. Lewis Hamilton Circuit of the Americas 5 2012, 2014-2017
3. Graham Hill Watkins Glen 3 1963-1965
3. Jim Clark Watkins Glen 3 1962, 1966-1967
3. Ayrton Senna Detroit 3 1986-1988
3. Max Verstappen Circuit of the Americas 3 2021-2023

Since COTA joined the F1 calendar in 2012, the seven-time champion has recorded his best finishing career average at a track with at least three visits, clocking in at 1.8, compared to the 2.9 of Silverstone.

Before his disqualification in 2023 from second place for excessive plank wear, Hamilton had only missed the podium once, in 2013, when he was fourth.

Of his seven world championships, Hamilton has picked up two of them at Austin - his third title in 2015 and the 2019 crown that allowed him to pass Juan Manuel Fangio's five titles to become just the second driver to win at least six crowns.
