Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are among a handful of F1 drivers to avoid a penalty after a series of investigations at the Dutch GP Sprint.
Prior to the race, won by Mercedes' George Russell, the stewards announced that Hamilton, Verstappen, Valtteri Bottas, Lance Stroll, and Yuki Tsunoda were all under investigation for failing to follow the race director's event notes - which give instructions to drivers for how to procede in certain scenarios.
During the investigations, it was found that each of the drivers had failed to follow item 24 in Rui Marques's notes, and stopped before reaching safety car line 1 on the way to the grid, and therefore failed to reach the grid under their own power.
However, it was found that as the back of the grid was "extremely crowded", the drivers concerned "acted appropriately" and stopped the car "in a safe spot as close as possible to the grid."
Hamilton finished seventh, behind Verstappen in sixth, with Bottas 19th for Cadillac, Stroll 17th for Aston Martin, and Tsunoda 13th on his F1 return, subbing in for Liam Lawson at Racing Bulls, who has been called up to replace the injured Isack Hadjar at Red Bull.
