Former Ferrari driver Rene Arnoux is unsurprised that Fred Vasseur has been linked to an exit from the team, insisting "something is missing" from the Italian squad.
The Ferrari team principal recently addressed reports from Italian media that the axe is on the cards, something he categorically denied.
It has been a disappointing year for the Scuderia so far, who do remarkably find themselves in the fight for second in the constructors' title despite not having claimed a win.
Ferrari is the only top-four team yet to win a grand prix in 2025, although Charles Leclerc has featured on the podium three times.
"I always felt that something is missing," Arnoux told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"To remain objective, you have to admit that they have always had trouble finding the right setup.
"That's one of the trickiest things about these current Formula 1 cars. If you don't find the right set-up right away, the weekend is as good as over right away."

Fred Vasseur exit rumours
Due to Ferrari's current struggles, it comes as no surprise to Arnoux that Vasseur's job is being speculated; however, he is hopeful a corner can be turned.
"The results under Vasseur speak for themselves," added Arnoux. "I would love to be wrong and to see Ferrari win again, but when you hear the team boss say he is satisfied with fifth place.... I can't understand that.
"I hope they are already working on the 2026 car, because otherwise they are in bad shape."
In a bid to improve its competitiveness, Ferrari is planning to introduce a new upgrades package in the British Grand Prix, a significant event for Lewis Hamilton.
Whilst an upgrade is on the way following this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix, Arnoux is remaining cautious on whether it will make a large difference.
"Maybe something will come out, but let's not forget that the competition is not standing still either," Arnoux pointed out. "Adding something new that gives you two to four tenths is just very difficult.
"I hope it's just a problem with the rear suspension, but I'm not really convinced. I think the world championship is kind of over anyway."
