Oliver Bearman will start the Spanish Grand Prix from the pit lane after significant changes were made to his car ahead of the race.

Bearman suffered a major crash in the final moments of FP3 on Saturday, which ruled him out of participation in qualifying.

He was due to take the start from the back of the grid, but this has since been updated to the pit lane after Haas carried out changes to the car.

The changes include new components to his power unit, as well as a chassis change.

With overtaking proving to be a challenge for the junior categories around the Madring, Bearman could be in for a long afternoon as he takes the start at the rear of the pack.

“Unfortunately, I got caught out in Turn 10 on the final lap, and it was a combination of the tyres being a bit old and I had a gust of wind not in my favour,” Bearman said on Saturday.

“I shouldn’t have made that mistake – it hurts a lot as the car was strong, but I’m sure there can be some opportunities tomorrow.

“We have to dust ourselves off and look at the positives, which is that the car was fast and we’ll be giving it everything to do the best we can tomorrow.”
