Fred Vasseur has conceded that Ferrari must sharpen its race weekend execution if the Italian squad is to close the 145-point gap to Mercedes in the constructors' championship.
Ferrari sit second on 358 points after 14 races, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton often possessing front-running pace in the SF-26 but failing to convert that speed into the results it merits.
It has managed to take two wins this year, with both Leclerc and Hamilton climbing to the top step of the podium on one occasion each.
Costly errors in Hungary and the Netherlands, in particular, have left points on the table at crucial moments.
Vasseur, characteristically, was harder on his own team than on anyone else.
"See that, execution, I'm a bit harsh with ourselves," Vasseur told media including RacingNews365.
“We missed a lot of points this season on execution, but probably less than our competitors."
Ferrari 'losing points to ourselves'
F1 underwent a significant shift this year, with fresh technical regulations causing great unknowns throughout the field.
Vasseur acknowledged that the huge change, as well as the addition of an 11th team on the grid, has contributed to the hurdles faced during the adjustment period.
"It's a new season, everything is new,” he said.
“Tyres are new. For the strategy, it's more difficult. Reliability for sure is an issue for everybody," Vasseur explained.
"The pit stop, I think for everybody, was also a bit more difficult on some occasions.
“We have 11 teams, the pit boxes are a bit smaller also, and we have to take this into consideration."
"But my job is to focus on myself, not to focus on the other ones, and I'm pushing my team to do a better job.
“But it's not that we are losing compared to the others. We are losing points on ourselves."
