Former F1 team principal Guenther Steiner has instructed Ferrari to give Fred Vasseur at least until the end of the 2026 season to decide on a potential management change.
The Italian squad has endured a challenging campaign and is still awaiting its first win of the season with just four grands prix remaining.
Earlier in the season, rumours persisted that Vasseur's position was in danger despite the Frenchman signing a multi-year extension.
Ferrari delivered a statement last month in which it asserted its faith in Vasseur's leadership.
Steiner highlighted it would make no sense for Vasseur to be moved aside before seeing Ferrari's potential in 2026 under new technical regulations.
“I think Fred will get a bit more time and the entirety of 2026 with the complete new rules,” Steiner told casino.org.
“If they are not competitive next year, I think something will happen there.
“It would be wrong now to put somebody new in right now. The new regulations are going to be challenging for everyone, and Ferrari will have had 2026 in mind for a long time.
“In Formula 1, everything starts very early. That process will have started a long time ago. Let’s see what they can deliver and judge them from there because Fred inherited what he inherited.
“Ferrari needs stability and calmness right now; not a change in such a senior position.”
Prior to Ferrari's statement, former Red Bull boss Christian Horner was being linked with Vasseur's position.
Although Horner achieved great success at the Milton Keynes-based squad, Steiner asserted that such success would not be guaranteed at Ferrari.
“I don’t know where Christian is going,” Steiner said.
“I think he wants to return to F1 because that is what he likes most in his life. My opinion on Ferrari is that it’s a very difficult company to run.
“They’re currently second in the Constructors’ Championship, but it’s very close. Second wouldn’t be a bad result this year, but it’s not good enough still for an organisation like Ferrari.
