Dominant De Vries takes pole position in Diriyah E-Prix Round 1

Nyck de Vries has convincingly taken pole position for the opening race of Formula E season in Saudi Arabia, with the Mercedes man finishing well ahead of Pascal Wehrlein.

Nyck de Vries is on pole position for the first Formula E race of the season in Saudi Arabia after breaking the lap record in Friday's first qualifying. The Dutchman set the fastest time during the group stage, just like in both free practices, and as a result was the last to start during the Super Pole shoot-out. The fastest man then was Pascal Wehrlein, but De Vries made sure to beat the German to top spot. In the end De Vries took pole position by a whopping 0.664 seconds ahead of Wehrlein. Rene Rast took third in the Audi as he embarks on his first full season in Formula E. Edoardo Mortara struggled after losing some time in sector 1 during his lap, but he recovered to start ahead of Alex Lynn and Mitch Evans. Andre Lotterer in the Porsche was the fastest driver not to make into superpole, and he will start ahead of Sam Bird with Maximilian Guenther and Alexander Sims rounding out the top 10.
