Brundle heaps praise on Wolff for his role in Mercedes' success

Martin Brundle thinks Mercedes boss Toto Wolff's expertise in both racing and business is a huge factor in the success the team have enjoyed in Formula 1.

Martin Brundle has explained why he thinks Toto Wolff has been able to lead Mercedes to such unrivalled success in Formula 1. The Brackley-based squad enter the 2021 F1 season on the back of seven consecutive drivers’ and constructors’ championship wins. And Brundle believes it is Wolff’s expertise in both racing and business that makes him such a formidable team leader. “He is without a doubt a serious entrepreneur,” Brundle said. “He came into Formula 1 and generated so much power and turned it into money. I’ve never seen anything like it." The Sky Sports F1 analyst goes on to describe Wolff as the “enterprising racing driver” who “just knows something about business and money.” Such has been Mercedes’ level of dominance that some fans have labelled the sport as boring, but Brundle stresses that periods of prolonged success are nothing new in F1. “In our sport we have to remember that there were times when Williams, McLaren, Ferrari, Benetton dominated – Red Bull too, of course,” Brundle continued. “Toto is in an extreme form. I mean, you can only be impressed by what he has done. We should celebrate your excellence, right? I’ve never seen a car that sticks to the road like this.” The Austrian recently agreed to extend his stay with Mercedes until 2023 in a deal that created a three-way equal partnership between himself, Daimler and chemical giants Ineos who bought into the team. Will Mercedes make it eight titles in a row in 2021?
