Aston Martin has announced the signing of Enrico Cardile from Ferrari, with the Italian set to join as F1 Chief Technical Officer.

It was revealed on Monday 8th July that long-time Ferrari technical guru Cardile would be leaving - with Aston Martin keen to bolster its technical ranks as it looks to move up the grid.

Cardile was chassis technical director at Ferrari, but will now join Aston Martin in 2025 after undergoing the mandatory period of gardenning leave.

This is a period of time where senior technical figures that move between teams are unable to start work for their new employer for a period of time to ensure sensitive, contemporary technical information is not taken to the benefit of the new team.

"I’m looking forward to joining Aston Martin," Cardile explained.

"The ambition and desire are clear and it is a unique opportunity to be part of that journey.

"This is a personal and professional challenge and I look forward to working with the team to bring success to this iconic brand."

The news of Cardile's signing comes days after the team also announced that former director of Mercedes High Performance Powertrains Andy Cowell would become Group CEO later in 2024, taking over from Martin Whitmarsh.

Cowell will help oversee the transition to Honda works power units in 2026, with executive chairman Lawrence Stroll believing a "formidable" team is being created.

"I would like to welcome Enrico to Aston Martin as we look to reinforce the technical leadership team ahead of significant regulation changes in 2026," he said.

"I am thrilled that we continue to attract world-class talent to our team. Enrico shares my motivation to be successful in F1 and will have all the resources available to him to realise that ambition.

"Together with Andy Cowell joining as Group CEO in October and our existing leaders we are creating a formidable team."

Team Principal Mike Krack added that Cardile was a "key appointment."

"Enrico has nearly 20 years of experience at Ferrari and will offer a fresh perspective to our technical strategy," he said.

"This is a key appointment for the team as we build towards the new 2026 regulations – an important next step on our journey."

Aston Martin is currently fifth in the 2024 Constructors' Championship, having finished seventh and eighth at the recent British Grand Prix.
