Alan Permane is F1’s newest team principal, having stepped up to replace Laurent Mekies, who in turn replaced the sacked Christian Horner at Red Bull in July 2025. Permane is an F1 stalwart after a long stint with Alpine.

About Alan Permane

Permane was born on February 4th, 1967, in Walton-on-Thames in Surrey in the United Kingdom.

Permane started his F1 career as a test electronics engineer for Benetton in 1989, and was promoted in 1996 after the Michael Schumacher heyday to junior race engineer, and eventually race engineer. By 2007, he had risen to be chief race engineer and in 2011, chief operating officer for the team now known as Renault. His final role for Team Enstone was as sporting director through the Lotus, Renault, and Alpine guises, a stalwart of the team, but was axed by the team during the 2023 Belgian GP weekend, departing his role along with team boss Otmar Szafnauer after the Spa weekend.

Alan Permane – Racing Bulls

By 2024, Permane was back in F1 with a racing director role at the newly rebranded Racing Bulls teams, previously Minardi, Toro Rosso, and AlphaTauri. After the sacking of Christian Horner from Red Bull in July 2025, boss Laurent Mekies was promoted to replace Horner, with Permane then in turn promoted to his first official team principal role, becoming the newest F1 team boss.
