Qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix has been pushed back by 30 minutes after a chaotic, rain-hit Sprint race at Marina Bay, with the session now set to begin at 21:30 local time.
The disruption began before a wheel had even turned. Torrential rain swept across the street circuit shortly before the sprint was due to start, forcing officials to delay the race itself by 30 minutes as standing water made conditions too dangerous for a start.
Once underway, the sprint quickly descended into chaos. George Russell crashed out in his Mercedes, bringing out the safety car and further disrupting the running order on the tight, barrier-lined layout.
By the finish, eight drivers had failed to see the chequered flag, with Oscar Piastri, Alexander Albon, Gabriel Bortoleto, Valtteri Bottas, Isack Hadjar, Russell, Sergio Pérez and Lance Stroll all retiring.
Max Verstappen emerged victorious ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, with Kimi Antonelli completing the top four.

Why qualifying must be delayed
The knock-on effect on qualifying stems directly from FIA sporting regulations governing sprint weekends, which require at least three hours between the chequered flag in the sprint and the start of qualifying.
With the sprint finishing later than scheduled, that mandatory gap pushed qualifying back by the same 30 minutes.
The delay also affects the setup window for teams. Parc ferme conditions, which restrict changes to car specification, lift once the sprint ends and remain open until cars leave the pit lane for qualifying.
That window has shifted later alongside the new start time, giving teams until 21:30 to finalise any adjustments before parc ferme regulations are reinstated for the rest of the event.
