When can Kimi Antonelli win the 2026 F1 drivers' championship title?

Following his victory at the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli holds an 81-point lead over Mercedes team-mate George Russell.

No other driver is within 100 points of the Italian, who is increasingly set to become the youngest F1 world champion and shatter Sebastian Vettel's record of 23 years, 4 months, 11 days by over three years.

Antonelli, who turned 20 in August 2026, has dominated the season, but when can the Mercedes driver become the first Italian to be crowned world champion since Alberto Ascari in 1953?

The article continues below.

THIS ARTICLE WILL BE UPDATED FOLLOWING EVERY GRAND PRIX UNTIL ANTONELLI WINS THE 2026 F1 WORLD DRIVERS' TITLE.

When can Kimi Antonelli win the title?

After the Spanish Grand Prix, there are nine races scheduled to last in the season, each worth 25 points.

This gives a total of 225 points remaining, which climbs to 233 once the eight points on offer in the Singapore Sprint race are added.

When Antonelli's current points lead of 81 is subtracted from this total of 233, it means he needs to score 152 more points to be assured of the title.

As it stands, with an 81 point lead over Russell, Antonelli would win the 2026 F1 drivers' championship title at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, with three races scheduled to remain after this, worth 75 points.

However, it is extremely likely that F1 will lose a grand prix from the 2026 schedule, with the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix not expected to go ahead owing to the uncertainty in the region due to the Iran War.

Imola is widely expected to fill in as the season finale on December 6th, meaning there are 23 races in the season.

Re-doing the calculations for a 23-race season, after the Spanish Grand Prix, there will be a total of 200 points on offer for race wins, climbing to 208 with the Singapore Sprint.

It means that once Antonelli's lead of 81 points is subtracted from the 208 on offer, he requires only 127 more points to be assured of the title.

With his current points lead of 81 and a 23 race season, Antonelli is on course to win the 2026 F1 world drivers' championship at the Mexico City Grand Prix on November 1st.

He would be 20 years, 2 months, 8 days on this date.
