It's Max Verstappen who will still the Qatar Grand Prix on Sunday from pole position after a blistering Lusail lap.
A 1:23.778 was good enough to secure P1 for Verstappen in the Red Bull, who only completed one flying lap in Q3.
Lando Norris was second fastest, but appeared to breach track limits on his final effort, which will cost him his fastest attempt that had vaulted him up the order. He was dumped down to 10th in the final classification.
George Russell inherited second with fifth-place Lewis Hamilton bumped up to third following the sanction to Norris - and team-mate Oscar Piastri.
Team-mate Sergio Perez could only manage 13th in a difficult session for the Mexican.
