When it comes to Formula E drivers in need of a new contract for next season and deserve one, Zane Maloney is putting himself at the sharp end of that list.
After a mixed debut campaign last season, Maloney has found strong form for much of 2026, with the 22-year-old looking like the real deal.
It is no secret that Lola has the weakest package on the grid after joining Formula E halfway through a regulatory cycle, but that makes what Maloney is doing all the more impressive.
The driver from Barbados is on a run of four consecutive top-10 results in qualifying, while he made back-to-back duel appearances for the first time in his career in Berlin.
A real step forward has been made by Lola when running at the standard 300kW, with Maloney proving he can regularly compete for strong starting positions. Once 350kW is in operation, things remain more difficult for Lola.
Nevertheless, Maloney is on a real high and gaining momentum, highlighting why Lola has put so much faith in the driver.
Highlighted that he must feel incredibly proud to have made back-to-back duel appearances, Maloney replied to RacingNews365: "For sure, the team has done a great job in pure performance.
"And then from my side, I do feel like I maximised every session in Berlin, so it's very satisfying from my side, and something positive to take away from the weekend, which is making it into the duels twice and actually having 300kW performance in every session.
"And now, I mean, obviously it's 350kW once we get to the duels. We want to progress, but we can't right now."

Maloney back to his best
Going from being a regular Formula 2 podium contender to a pointless maiden Formula E campaign was tough for Maloney, who was very much aware of what he was signing up for at Lola.
However, with steps being made both by the team and himself, he is starting to feel like he is getting back to his best.
"I feel like, I don't know, I feel like I'm back to performing at a very, very high level over the last five weekends, and I feel like I'm just getting more and more confident in the car," added Maloney.
"So I don't think that it's any fluke at all."
Maloney has been involved in the development of Lola’s Gen4 car and has driven it, despite being without a contract for next season.
It is widely expected that he will remain with the Silverstone-based operation, with Maloney hopeful that his performances are being noticed by senior Lola figures.
Asked if his form has come at the right time for his future in the series, Maloney answered: "I don't know. We'll see. I'm happy with how I'm driving.
"I feel like I'm getting the most out of what I have and driving at a very high level. So I hope that the people who should see this see this. And of course, I want to be doing Gen4, and I look forward to the Gen4 car — faster, a bit more fun for the drivers as well.
"So yeah, I can only drive what I have, and I think I've been performing very well, and the team are also supporting me in that sense. So very motivated for more."
