Zane Maloney confirms Formula E future

Zane Maloney has confirmed assumptions that he will continue with the Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E Team for a second campaign. 

It had been widely assumed that Lola was planning to retain Maloney and veteran Lucas di Grassi for Season 12, something the rookie has confirmed at least on his side of the garage.

Asked if he is searching for a seat elsewhere, Maloney told RacingNews365: "No, I'm happy where I am. Obviously, we knew this was a long-term project when I signed. 

"And yeah, looking forward to next season."

Pressed on if he is staying with Lola, Maloney responded: "Yep."

The Barbadian has been the only complete rookie in FE this season, with Taylor Barnard having made three race appearances last year, whilst David Beckmann appeared twice for Andretti in 2023.

Maloney and Lola have required time adjusting to the all-electric series and getting up to speed, something di Grassi's experience has heavily supported. 

However, signs of progress have been clearly visible from the 21-year-old, who would have scored his first points in Jakarta had it not been for a drive-through penalty. 

Just Maloney and Beckmann remain point-less this season, although the former Sauber Academy driver is focusing more on what is ahead of him in the coming months.

"I've enjoyed it," said Maloney, reflecting on his debut campaign. "Firstly, I think obviously that you want to enjoy what you do as a job. We've improved massively as a team and me as a driver throughout this season. 

"And I think two or three races ago, we were already in a position where we could start to score some points. So obviously, in Jakarta, we were there, thereabouts until the drive through penalty.

"Generally, I've been very happy with how the team are developing and where we're getting to, and then also from my side, I've come a long way, let's say, since the start of the season. 

"It doesn't show yet on the standings, but yeah, I'm looking a bit less at this year and more at my career and what I plan on doing in that."
