Yuki Tsunoda believes Red Bull could combine set-ups between his car and that of team-mate Max Verstappen to fix the "core limitation" at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
In FP2, Tsunoda was ninth fastest, and actually ahead of Verstappen in 14th, who branded his car "undriveable" at the tight, twisty circuit.
Red Bull's RB21 has been stronger on fast, flowing tracks this season, but was decisively off the pace on Friday in Budapest, Tsunoda being over eight-tenths slower than pace-setter Lando Norris.
However, the Japanese racer believes a combination of his and Verstappen's cars could create a step forward for the team.
"The balance itself is not the main issue, and where we are struggling is that the grip I should normally feel, [I am not]," Tsunoda explained.
"It is where we are lacking, but at least after FP1, there was a bit of a step from that, so there are some positives, which is good, but overall, as a team, we are struggling.
"It is not an easy thing [to change], we changed a lot of things in FP2, and I'm sure we can take something from Max's car and my car and combine each other's [set-up].
"But I feel like we have to find something, we have a core limitation that we are missing, and we have to find it for qualifying."
