Max Verstappen stands on the brink of an extraordinary challenge next month, one that could redefine how we view his already glittering career.
The four-time world champion will tackle the 24 Hours of Nürburgring on May 16–17, driving a Mercedes-AMG GT3 for Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing.
The question is simple yet profound: would victory at the Green Hell eclipse his four consecutive world championships?
Consider the scale of Verstappen's F1 dominance. His 2021 title came in arguably the most dramatic championship conclusion in history, decided on the final lap in Abu Dhabi after entering the race tied on points with Lewis Hamilton.
Then came 2022, when he won 15 races. The 2023 season was something else entirely: a record-shattering 19 victories from 22 races, including 10 consecutive wins. Even in 2024, driving for the third-placed constructor, he claimed nine wins and a fourth consecutive title.
Yet the Nürburgring 24 Hours presents a different beast altogether. The Nordschleife features over 170 corners across 25 kilometres, earning its “Green Hell” nickname through sheer brutality.
More than 100 cars compete simultaneously, with weather conditions varying dramatically across the circuit’s length.
Verstappen himself acknowledged the challenge, stating: “It’s those little details that I need to nail down.”
The Red Bull driver is at the Nordschleife this weekend for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring Qualifiers, two four-hour races taking place on Saturday and Sunday.
Would conquering this legendary endurance race surpass four world championships?
