Verstappen suffers shock crash as Russell clinches controversial pole
Max Verstappen crashed in the dying seconds of qualifying while fighting for pole position, which went to George Russell at the Austrian Grand Prix. Russell's pole at the Red Bull Ring was controversial, with only a single-waved yellow flag was shown for Verstappen's crash.
Elsewhere, Ferrari surprised once again to secure second and third on the grid, while Kimi Antonelli starts from fourth after bailing out of his final lap due to Verstappen's crash. The championship leader accepted he made a costly mistake in doing so.
