Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc set for Monaco showdown as Max Verstappen surprises
Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets on the opening day of the Monaco Grand Prix, as Ferrari dominated proceedings with back-to-back one-two finishes in first and second practice. However, it was Max Verstappen in third, not Mercedes.
Verstappen's performance was one of the surprises of the day, while Red Bull partner Isack Hadjar did well to recover from a heavy crash in first practice. It was a bad day for McLaren and Lando Norris, with the team having been off the pace while the reigning world champion suffered a battery failure.
