Toto Wolff has admitted he is not completely in favour of seeing Christian Horner return to the F1 grid.
Horner was the long-time team principal of Red Bull before he was ousted from the role midway through the 2025 campaign.
During his tenure at the helm of Red Bull, he was known to be outspoken and did not shy away from playing political games with his peers.
This included a fierce rivalry with Wolff during the 2021 campaign when Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen battled for the drivers' championship.
As Horner seeks a return to the grid in the near future, Wolff admitted he has a split opinion on the matter.
“I am in two minds about it,” Wolff told Press Association. “The sport is missing personalities.
“And his personality was clearly very controversial and that is good for the sport.
“I said to Fred Vasseur that it needs ‘the good, the bad, and the ugly.’ And it is now only the good and the ugly left. The bad is gone!”
Wolff 'at ease' if Horner makes F1 return
Wolff conceded that he would never be able to work alongside Horner in the same team.
“Would I consider that he could ever be an ally or someone that shares objectives? I don’t think so,” he said.
However, Horner's legacy at Red Bull leaves him as one of the most successful figures in the sport's history - a position that Wolff respects.
“But even when I had the biggest frustration, and anger with him, you need to remind yourself that even your worst enemy has a best friend so there must be some goodness.
“Over those years it was just too intense, too fierce, and things happened which even today I cannot comprehend why he has done them.”
“I don’t know if he is finding his way back, and in which function. I certainly don’t wish him bad. And we need to give each other credit.
“There are not many team principals who have done what he has done.
“I see a situation that whatever happens, whatever outcomes there may be, whether he comes back to Formula 1 or not, I am at ease with it.”
