Verstappen set for another mind-blowing F1 record

Max Verstappen breaking F1 records is becoming a recurring theme.

The Red Bull driver took the most race wins in a row earlier this year and, following victory at the Mexico City Grand Prix, broke the record for the most wins in a single season for the second campaign in succession - surpassing the 15 he tallied en route to his second Drivers' title with three events yet to run.

Another record to add to the collection?

Verstappen can add another record to his impressive CV this year, which would say more about his dominance than his won tally.

The F1 calendar has become increasingly crowded in modern times and so whilst Verstappen has been able to amass 16 race wins in one season, there have been seasons consisting of 16 or fewer races.

To get a good idea of how well the Dutchman is really doing, the percentage of race wins acorss a season is the best measuring tool and Verstappen is on top, albeit with three races left to run.

Should he win any of these races, his win percentage at the end of this year will be at least 77 per cent and he will have the record. If he wins all three races then he would finish at 86.4 percent.

The record is currently held by former two-time World Champion Alberto Ascari, in 1952. It should be noted that in 1952, the season consisted of eight races, of which Ascari managed to win six at a success-rate of 75 per cent.
