Martin Brundle believes Lewis Hamilton will pounce if there is a "sniff of victory" for Ferrari at this weekend's Miami Grand Prix.
Hamilton has begun his second season at Ferrari by scoring a first grand prix podium for the team, in China, and has spoken of his pleasure at driving the new generation of cars, which are more aligned with his driving style as opposed to the ground-effect machines he struggled with.
Ferrari is anticipating making a big step forward in Miami as, like most other teams, it unleashes fresh upgrades with Brundle firm that, if the SF-26 is in contention for a win, the seven-time champion can deliver.
"Lewis clearly enjoys these cars much more. Ferrari is more competitive, and I think it will make a big step for Miami," Brundle told Sky Sports F1.
"Lewis obviously prefers this type of car to the ground effect cars that were smashing against the ground, quite brutal things, which did not seem to suit his style.
"But his mood, and the way he is going about it, he just seems a lot happier because Ferrari is more competitive, and he's got to beat Charles Leclerc if he is going to win the world championship.
"So let's see if he can sustain this, and I mean, if there is a sniff of victory, I think Lewis is very much still capable of taking that."
