Ricciardo suggests radical format change for Monaco GP

While the Monaco GP is one of the more prestigious races in the world, the event doesn't usually offer much in terms of overtaking. As a result Daniel Ricciardo wouldn't mind adopting a new format around the streets of Monte Carlo.

Hot on the heels of F1's first Sprint Qualifying weekend at the British GP, McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo is willing to go even further in order to spice up the race in Monaco.

The event at Silverstone was positively received by most as Max Verstappen took the first ever Sprint Qualifying event on Saturday, finishing ahead of championship rival Lewis Hamilton in the 100km mini-race. With the Monaco GP often a procession due to the lack of overtaking opportunities on the tight track, Ricciardo wonders if a radical new format would inject some life into the event.

"We need to start racing on bigger tracks," Ricciardo stated on McLaren Unboxed. "We should have like a qualifying format in Monaco. Just a three-day qualifying.

"And best lap from the whole three days is [the winner]. Just like a shoot-out for three days."
