Oscar Piastri triggered a red flag in the third and final practice at the Canadian Grand Prix by clattering the Wall of Champions around 20 minutes into the session.
The McLaren driver damaged his rear right tyre but was able to bring his ailing MCL39 back to the pits. He did, however, leave debris strewn across the track, which necessitated the stoppage in action.
With the Woking team having checked over the car for suspension and rear corner damage and having strapped a new set of tyres on, the Australian was be able to continue participating in FP3 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The lap prior to his collision, Nico Hulkenberg, who was running just behind the seven-time grand prix runner on track, pulled off a 360 degree spin at the same corner, grazing the wall with his rear wing.
Piastri will hope the clash will bring him good fortune later in the year, with the wall given its name in 1999 after multiple F1 drivers' champions hit it during the same weekend in Montreal, including Michael Schumacher, Jacques Villeneuve and Damon Hill.
The 24-year-old leads the F1 drivers' championship by 10 points over team-mate Lando Norris after nine rounds in the season.
