Red Bull reveal upgrade truth for Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies has confirmed that the upgrade package arriving on the RB22 in Azerbaijan this week will be the team's last major update of the season.

There is a shift in focus for Red Bull, with the Milton Keynes-based squad directing the bulk of its resources towards next year's car, at a time when Max Verstappen has made solid progress of late after finishing on the podium in four of the last five races.

Asked whether the Baku package marked the end of significant development on the current car, speaking to the media, including RacingNews365, Mekies said: "Yes, you're right. It's most probably our last significant package.

"We have switched a significant part of our resources, a very large majority of our resources, to next year's car now.

"It doesn't mean that we don't look at this season. At first, we are still chasing our first win. That's an important target for the team.

"And second, as you know, the regulations have only very little change for next year, and there are huge opportunities for us to continue to learn in the remaining races and to make sure we arrive as prepared as we can for next year.

"But in short, yes, it's the last significant upgrade for this year."

Red Bull still hunting maiden win

Red Bull sits fourth in the constructors' standings on 230 points, with Verstappen sixth in the drivers' championship on 145 points.

Although the four-time F1 champion has finished on the podium on three occasions this season, including last time out in the Spanish GP in Madrid, he is in danger of a winless season for the first time since his debut campaign with Toro Rosso in 2015.

Although Mekies has made clear that targeting a victory is a priority, that comes as the wider engineering effort pivots elsewhere.

The switch in priorities comes against a backdrop of only minor regulation changes for next year, giving Red Bull scope to keep extracting data from the RB22 across the remaining races without needing further major aerodynamic investment.

Whether the Baku upgrade, focused on the floor and sidepod areas, proves enough to finally unlock that first win remains to be seen over the closing rounds of the campaign.
