Red Bull enjoyed a strong first day of F1 Testing in Bahrain, but its new power unit suffered its first major blip in Sakhir.

RacingNews365 understands from sources that sister team Racing Bulls identified a serious problem with its RBPT-Ford power unit, one which meant rookie Arvid Lindblad could not run in the afternoon.

Lindblad completed 75 laps in the morning, but did not return to the track in the afternoon following the launching of an investigation into the issue.

The problem did not affect the senior Red Bull team and Max Verstappen, who was driving, as he racked up a day-best 136 laps as he finished in second place, behind Lando Norris.

Neither Lindblad nor Verstappen are scheduled to be out on track on Thursday, with Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar, respectively, taking over the machines for a full day of running.

Verstappen's pace and reliability in the morning caught the eye of Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, who claimed that his team were unable to match the energy deployment and pace of the RBPT-Ford on the day.

Formula 1 engines follow the same rules — at least on paper.
In this video, we explore a fascinating Mercedes engine theory that is engulfing the F1 paddock, with Red Bull quietly part of the story. Not an illegal trick, but a clever interpretation of the regulations.
At the heart of the controversy is a rumoured approach to compression ratios, measured legally during FIA inspection, but potentially very different once the engine reaches operating temperature.
We break down how it works, why it matters, and why this advantage — if real — may be brilliant, legal… but only temporary.
Because in Formula 1, every grey area eventually disappears — one way or another.
