Liam Lawson is seeking to get his second F1 campaign off to a strong start, as he hopes for a boost from the fans in Australia.
Although he represents New Zealand, Lawson highlighted the event in Melbourne as the closest thing he has to a home race.
The 24-year-old endured a mixed first full season in F1 last year as he found himself demoted to Racing Bulls after just two rounds with the sister Red Bull squad.
As he looks to commence the year in a stronger fashion this time around, Lawson hailed the importance of the short winter break.
"I’m super excited for Round 1 in Melbourne as we kick off the new season,” he said.
“While the winter break felt short, it was great to spend some time at home in New Zealand with friends and family to recharge and physically prepare for a demanding 2026.”
Fresh technical regulations introduced this season have caused various uncertainties ahead of the new season.
But having concluded all of the pre-season preparations, Lawson has voiced his excitement for getting the year underway in a familiar part of the world.
“There’s a lot of unknowns going into this year, with new regulations and new cars, meaning we’ll be continuously learning and adapting throughout the year which is exciting for the sport,” he said.
“The most recent testing in Bahrain was a reflection of this; understanding the reliability of the car and power unit, both of which run reliably throughout the week.
“Preparation is key as we enter this new era in F1, so that’s the continued focus.
“It’s as close as possible to a home race in Australia, so I’m looking forward to meeting the local fans and feeling the atmosphere which is always really special.”
