Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has been backed to win a world championship in F1 by his father.
The Mexican has struggled for form throughout the last handful of seasons with his future at the team beyond the current season up in the air.
Perez held a strong reputation when joining Red Bull in 2021, having performed at a high standard while racing for the midfield Force India/Racing Point team for several years.
However, he has failed to take a podium result since the Chinese Grand Prix in April and sits 204 points down on team-mate Max Verstappen.
Speaking to Mexican publication Récord+, Perez received the support from his father: “The best of Checo Perez is yet to come.
“I am sure that in due course, Checo will have the weapons and the tools to fight for the world championship.
“I am very excited and I can say that Checo will be world champion.”
Perez will take part in his home race in Mexico City this weekend, an event he has always received huge support at.
The 34-year-old scored two podiums at the round in 2021 and 2022 - last year, his race ended at the first corner following contact with Charles Leclerc.
