Sergio Perez has been left fuming over a "super dangerous" end to the Belgian Grand Prix Sprint Shootout.
The Red Bull driver had been setting the timing screens alight when approaching the final chicane at Spa-Francorchamps, with the opportunity to start another lap before the chequered flag flew.
But Perez was met with a number of slow-moving cars entering the chicane, losing valuable time as well as scuppering his chances of a clean final effort.
"It was a mess," said Perez.
"A super dangerous situation that I found myself in with one dry line and people just stopped.
"The difference in speed was huge, so really bad.
"I then opened my final lap on Charles' tail so nothing I could do, I was just sitting there.
"Not good. Unfortunately, we didn't have a good run programme."
The Mexican was able to secure just eighth on the grid for the 15-lap Sprint, with an uphill task ahead to get back into the top three positions.
"It will be another opportunity but we certainly haven't maximised our chances," he conceded.
