Oscar Piastri has voiced his desire to see F1 transition to the 60/40 engine split in the near future.
A number of drivers have voiced their dissatisfaction with the new power units this year and the techniques needed to extract performance.
It has generated talk of the possibility of moving away from the current 50/50 split between combustion and electrical power this season.
Some manufacturers are said to be against such a change after years of investment in the current formula.
But Piastri has stated that, for the benefit of the show, such a change is necessary
“We are all aware that things should change and things need to change going forward,” Piastri told media including RacingNews365.
“I understand that it's not an easy thing for all the manufacturers to effectively redesign things again, so quickly, after so much investment.
“We all know that things need to change at some point in the future, and where I sit on is the sooner the better, really.”
Piastri is not alone in his complaints, with Max Verstappen suggesting a 60/40 split is the “bare minimum” required to keep him interested in staying.
While no decisions have yet been made, Ferrari and Audi have voiced docile concerns over making such a modification.
“There's obviously a lot of different reasons up and down the grid, which I really understand,” Piastri added.
“Everyone's going to have their different reasons for wanting different things, but I think as a sport we need to go towards a more combustion-heavy split.”
