Lando Norris has reason to smile after finishing Friday practice in second place, but the British driver was unhappy with how his car handled throughout the day. While Norris underlined McLaren's potential by finishing just a tenth behind Red Bull's Max Verstappen, he believes it's simply a case of his team opting to show more pace than the others. "I'm very surprised by today," Norris told RacingNews365.com and others. "But I think it's more just we showed more pace than the others. It's as simple as that. I think we'll see the obvious four cars at the front tomorrow, I'm guessing. "You never know. We could be surprised. But the car didn't feel that good today. I guess it's a bit promising that if we can improve those things into tomorrow, then we can be even better. Whether we can improve with them is the question because there's similar things to what I've been working on all season. "And I will see if we can come up with anything else for tomorrow. So quietly confident, I guess. But although we look good today, I don't want to get too confident, because I didn't necessarily think this is where we want to be." Asked about where he specifically felt the car was lacking, Norris pointed out issues in terms of cornering. "Most corners, really," Norris added. "The corners are not good enough..I don't know. "It's not like one particular place, it's a few different areas. I'm not gonna say of course. In different scenarios, it feels good. And in some other areas, it feels slightly worse. "A bit depends on the wind and the weather and temperature as well. It depends whether it's low fuel or high fuel. So it's different areas we've got to work on. And that's what we're doing tonight. "I don't have the confidence that I want, especially in the medium and high speed corners. "So corners like six and seven. I made a mistake there on my first lap, I had to abort because I turned in and just completely lost the rear. So my confidence in the car isn't where I want it to be and isn't where we had it last year. But there's also improvements in other places compared to last year."
