Lando Norris denied McLaren possess an unbeatable F1 car, insisting those who make such claims “like to talk crap”.

McLaren has won the opening two rounds of the season with Norris and team-mate Oscar Piastri clinching one victory apiece.

The Woking-based squad has been the benchmark team at the start of the new season as it looks to add another constructors' title to its win last year, as well as its first drivers' championship since the 2008 campaign.

While it has showcased strong pace at the opening two rounds, Norris asserted it is not as dominant as some people make it out to be.

“I think the people that say that, like the 'unbeatable' stuff is just nonsense, they just like to talk crap sometimes," Norris told media including RacingNews365.

"It's your job as the media to figure out these things and not just listen to what everyone says and write what they say.

"You have to try and understand what they're saying and prove that what they're saying is a fact, rather than I can just say a load of crap and you write it down.

“But it's up to you to get across the facts of what is true, and not just write nonsense that people like to say."

Norris: Red Bull 2024 advantage greater than McLaren's

12 months ago, it was Red Bull who commenced the season in strong fashion with Max Verstappen winning seven out of the opening 10 races.

Norris outlined Red Bull's advantage was much greater than what McLaren is currently experiencing.

“I think if we go back one year ago, Red Bull was still a lot further ahead than we are now,” he said.

“The fact they had two drivers up there dominating, they were a lot further ahead than we are now.

“So I think we're doing a very good job and I feel like people are talking about us a lot more now, but I think it's because of where we've come from over the last year and a half, the deficit we've come from.

"But the car Red Bull had at this time last year was a lot better than what we have now, compared to our competitors. So I think you have to take that into account."
