Mercedes has revealed the cause of Kimi Antonelli's title-damaging retirement from the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.
Just after passing team-mate George Russell for second place on the road, Antonelli ground to a halt on the run out of Turn 6 and retired from the race, his first of the season.
This handed Russell back second place, and meant he took 18 points out of Antonelli's points lead, which now stands at 50 points, when it could have been 21 if Antonelli finished second.
Lewis Hamilton, following his win is nine points ahead of Russell.
However, Mercedes has now confirmed that Antonelli retired from the grand prix with what the team called an "electrical shutdown."
It is the second DNF for a works Mercedes of the season, following Russell's own DNF in Canada.
