McLaren's Hungarian GP plans disrupted after freak event

McLaren has been forced to adapt its Hungarian GP plans after a freak weather event.

McLaren has been forced to close its Team Hub for the Hungarian Grand Prix after freak weather hit the track on Wednesday.

During the set-up day at the Hungaroring, a torrential rain storm lasting an hour-and-a-half hit the circuit, flooding it in places.

McLaren's multi-story hub, which was damaged by an electrical fire during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend and out of action for repairs in Austria, was damaged again, with the team forced to close it for the coming weekend.

"On Wednesday afternoon, during set-up for the Hungarian Grand Prix, the team was hit with an unexpected weather event which has impacted the McLaren Team Hub," read a team statement.

"The team are currently working to fix the damage and therefore unfortunately our Team Hub will not be open to any guests or media for the duration of the Hungarian GP."

In Spain and Austria when the facility was out of action, McLaren boss Zak Brown used the FIA's hospitality as his base with the drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri using other McLaren facilities as their driver bases.
