McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has stated McLaren deployed “bravery” while constructing its 2025 F1 car in the hope of making a sizeable step forward.

The Woking-based squad has enjoyed a highly successful campaign thus far, winning 12 out of the 17 races staged.

It has left McLaren on the verge winning the constructors' championship, an achievement it can clinch this weekend in Singapore.

Its drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been the main protagonists in the drivers' title fight, with the latter holding a 25-point lead over his team-mate.

McLaren's form is the strongest the team has enjoyed in decades as it looks to seal double championship success since 1998.

When asked where McLaren has raised the bar this year compared to past seasons, Stella told media including RacingNews365: “Many aspects.

“Obviously, in Formula 1, you try and improve in every possible area of going racing.

“But I would say if I had to pick one, that is from a technical point of view.”

Stella highlighted the MCL39 challenger differs greatly from its predecessor, including parts that are not visible to the eye when it is on the track.

“I think the car itself is just a much better car. It’s very innovative compared to last year. We decided to go for development in pretty much every single part of the car.

“We required some bravery in some areas of the car, for instance in the front suspension and some other parts that are less visible.

“So for me, that’s where the biggest step forward has happened. And obviously, like I said, the race team and the drivers themselves — we are all developed.”
