Max Verstappen rules out major F1 decision

Max Verstappen has denied that he will one day seek to bring Verstappen Racing to the F1 grid.

The Dutchman set up the racing squad bearing his own name in 2022 and has since entered it into various GT3 categories.

Verstappen himself has taken on driving duties with his team, most notably when he entered the 24 Hours of Nurburgring earlier this year.

While the squad is still in its infancy, Verstappen has major ambitions for his team as he insisted it is not simply there to make up positions on the starting grid.

When asked where he sees the team in the next 10 to 20 years, Verstappen told Formule 1 Magazine: “By then, there should be a professional racing team competing for victories in the various racing classes.

“Nothing more, nothing less. We’re not going to compete just because it’s fun to race. 

“We want to be at the front, win races, and, at the very least, consistently compete at the front,” he says in an interview with 

“That standard must always be there. The pace of further development also depends a little bit on my own choices for the coming years and what I do in Formula 1. 

“But it’s definitely the goal to expand the racing team further. Specifically toward endurance racing, not toward Formula 1 or anything like that."

Verstappen has long held an interest in GT and endurance racing, suggesting on many occasions that he may have a more consistent presence in related categories when he retires from F1.

But as he continues to grow his own race team, the four-time champion denied that it will eventually result in joining the F1 grid.

“No! Because that’s way too demanding,” he said. “Then I’d still be on the road for 24 races a year or very busy with my own racing team. 

“Outsource things? Yeah, that’s possible. But I think that if you’re a truly dedicated team owner who wants to get everything right, you have to stay on top of things and be there in person.”

"Of course, you also need people who can run the team’s day-to-day operations effectively, but I’m not the type of person who can lie on a beach for five races without knowing what’s going on with my team. 

“That would cause me too much stress, and I don’t want that."
